Installing an FTP or SFTP client

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a method for transferring files from one computer to another computer or server. For security reasons, the Computer Help Desk recommends that you use a Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) client when connecting to a server.

The Computer Help Desk recommends the following client, which support both FTP and SFTP for most operating systems:

The above link will take you to FileZilla's homepage, where you can download the program. Follow the instructions provided by FileZilla's installation file.

You may download an alternative FTP or SFTP client (such as WinSCP or Fugu), but be advised that they are not supported by UVic.
