Network Services has been asked to change the IP of our main website www.uvic.ca today (Monday May 25, 2015 at 16:00). Both the old and new IP will be active for the next week. As the DNS change propagates, traffic will flow to the new IP.

Please report any problems with this change to netadmin@uvic.ca.

Scheduled Server Maintenance - Remote Desktop/Terminal Services

Effective 23 hours ago: Required system updates will be applied to the following Windows Terminal/Remote Desktop Servers beginning at 18:00 PDT, Wednesday, May 27, 2015:

- ALLIGATOR (after 9PM)
- BATFISH
- COURSER
- DUNNOCK (after 8PM)
- GOAT
- HUMPBACK
- MANTIS
- MOOSE
- MOUSE
- OKAPI
- WOLF

The services and client groups affected by the system updates include:

- batfish.comp.uvic.ca, Remote Desktop Services users
- browsers.uvic.ca, Windows Terminal Services users
- dcsremote.uvic.ca, Remote Deskop Services users
- ialsa.uvic.ca, Remote Deskop Services users
- lawcentre.law.uvic.ca, Remote Desktop Services users
- mplus.uvic.ca, Remote Desktop Services users
- remote.systems.uvic.ca Windows Terminal Services users

It is recommended that you save any work in progress, close any open files and avoid using these servers during the scheduled maintenance period.

All services will resume by 22:00 PDT.

COMPLETED - Sharepoint 2013 Maintenance

We need to perform maintenance on SharePoint 2013 Web servers this evening, which requires restart of Information Services. This will happen between 20:30 and 21:00 tonight, May 27th, 2015.

The service interruption is not expected, however, in some situations, your browser session may disconnect and show an error loading a page. Manually refreshing the browser should re-connect you to the alternate server.

COMPLETED - Star RESS servers maintenance

We need to perform scheduled maintenance of Antivirus product on Star RESS Servers this evening, Wednesday May 27th, 2015, between 20:00 and 21:00.

Servers may need to be restarted several times which will cause temporary interruption in service. We will update this informed when work has been completed, after which the service should resume without further interruptions.

NETS: Switch replacement GSC 117

This outage will last up to an hour and impact GSC's data, voice, and wireless services for the duration of the outage.

Moving server networks

Effective 12 hours from now: Five server vlans will be moved tomorrow morning starting at 06:00. There will be very brief interruptions as the moves take place. Unix, Windows and Database staff will monitor for any issues.
