Scheduled External Network Maintenance August 27, 2016 9am-5pm PT

Effective date: August 27, 2016 at 09:00:00 am(22 hours from now)

Effective 22 hours from now: On Saturday August 27, BC NET/CANARIE will be performing network maintenance between 9am-5pm PT. During this period there will be several hours with no external access to several research systems including Hermes/Nestor and the West Cloud. Details on the schedule have not been released yet, so we will update this notice once the information is available.

During this period Hermes/Nestor jobs will continue to run, if they rely on external resources (storage, etc) they will have issues during this period. For the West Cloud your instances (VM's) will continue to run, but you will not be able to access them. Access to the OpenStack Dashboard and API will also be affected. Access to the cloud will be available from the UVic campus if required.

Scheduled external network maintenance: BCNET/Canarie maintnenace

Effective 22 hours from now: On Saturday August 27, BC NET/CANARIE will be performing network maintenance between 9am-5pm PT.

This maintenance will impact Canarie and UVIC services in Victoria. These include local access to the research Network, IX peering services, Westgrid and LHCONE services for up to 8 hours.

Local Internet Transit will not be impacted during this maintenance.

All other network services, such as Internet Transit, Peering, access to the Research Network, and services at other Exchanges
will not be affected.

Network services will be rebooting switchese in SUB A128, B015a, and B108 at 5:00 AM on August 26 2016 to complete software updates.

Voice, data and wireless will be affected while devices reload.

Work will be completed by 7:30 AM.

OnlineAcademicCommunity release of new servers (outage)

Effective 2 days from now: We will be swapping in some new servers for the OnlineAcademicCommunity service 2016Aug29 at ~0730. There will be a momentary outage -- anyone logged in at the time of change will lose their unsaved changes and be forced to login again.

EDC1 BCP VMware datastore migrations

Effective 5 hours from now: We will be performing live migrations of datastores within the BCP VMware cluster to facilitate a migration to NetApp cluster mode. No outage is expected.

Effective 2 days from now: Network services will be rebooting switches in CSR 014 at 5:00 AM on August 29 to complete software updates.

Voice, data and wireless will be down while the devices reboot.

Work will be completed by 7 AM.
