Alumnus launches online course on environmental security and sustaining peace

David Jensen, a UVic Geography alumnus, launched a powerful new online course on the relationship between resource scarcity and increasing global armed conflict. Jensen is currently the Head of Environmental Cooperation for Peacebuilding for the UN in Geneva.

Jensen says, "The course addresses the role that natural resources and the environment can play across the conflict lifecycle and also in post-conflict recovery and peacebuilding. It includes a range of natural resources, from extractives to land and water, as well as a range of tools and approaches from conflict and gender sensitivity to assessments, meditation and spatial planning. It also includes detailed information on security risks from climate change. The course both connects to the SDGs as well as the new Sustaining Peace agenda." Read the full story here.
