Tixen Day (Cordova Spit) - April 1
Join Tsawout Elder Earl Claxton Jr. and biologist James Miskelly for a 1 hour guided walk at ȾIXEN (also called Cordova Spit) as they explain some of the cultural and natural features that make this such an important area. Then remove Scotch Broom and litter to help protect ȾIXEN’s sensitive ecosystems and rare species.
At noon, meet Elder Belinda Claxton and Dr. Nancy Turner for a pit cook demonstration and sampling of salmon. Invasive species (Scotch Broom) clean up will continue after lunch with Judith Lyn Arney and team.
When: Wednesday, April 1st, 2015. 10:00 am – 3:00 pm.
Note: Please wear sturdy footwear and appropriate clothes for the changeable weather. Gloves and restoration tools provided. Water and snacks provided, but bring a bag lunch.
Directions: Turn off the Pat Bay Hwy onto Mt. Newton Cross Rd (by the McDonald’s) and drive East. Follow the road until it intersects with Jimmy Road. Turn left. Go to Sa Su Road and turn right - follow it to the parking area at the start of the spit (near the sewage treatment plant).
