The WCWI at the Marine Engineering - New Wave Conference

The Marine Engineering - New Wave conference is organized by the Vancouver Island branch of the Canadian Institute of Marine Engineering (CIMarE). The conference is a technical event on new technology, challenges and overlap in the ship, marine renewables and ocean technology industries. The conference is targeted at marine and ocean engineers, naval architects, government, marine and business developers. There are technical presentations and an exhibition.
WCWI will have a stand in the trade exhibition. We will have a scaled model of a Wave Energy Converter on display; so feel free to come and ask us any questions.
Dr. Bryson Robertson, the WCWI’s project manager and senior research engineer, who leads the resource modeling work, will be presenting a technical talk entitled “The West Coast Wave Initiative: developing ocean wave energy in BC.”
There will be poster displays from members of the WCWI team. These are:
Assessing the impacts of wave energy integration in remote community district energy grids
Jean Duquette, Jessica Bekker, Peter Wild, Andrew Rowe, Brad Buckham
Influence of mooring dynamics on wave energy converter efficiency
Juan P. Ortiz, Helen Bailey, Bradley Buckham, Curran Crawford
Experimental Comparisons of Self-Reacting Point Absorber Wave Energy Converters
Scott Beatty, Brad Buckham, Peter Wild
Advanced Hydrodynamics Modeling for Wave Energy Converters
Virag Mishra, Shahab Yeylaghi, Curran Crawford, Peter Oshkai
We are also pleased to have some posters from the Final Project of the University of Victoria’s Ocean Engineering course, MECH 446. These are:
WavePiston- Wave Energy Conversion System
Erin Kelly, Jason Nelford, Christina Smith and Jana Strain
Magnetostrictive Wave Energy Harvester
Kailey Allan and Michael Westby
The Energy Generation Capability and Mooring of the Pelamis Wave Energy Converter in Vancouver Island Waters
Tyler Lanigan, Angus Hudson, Andrew Beak-Taylor, and Thomas Riva
