Music and media reserve - faculty information
Use our online reserve request form to submit requests for materials you need placed on reserve to support your teaching.
A list of all materials on reserve for each faculty member is available and is updated daily.
This list may be printed for your future course reserve needs.
Materials Placed on Reserve
- Music books, scores, recordings, and videos from the Library. Normally, only one copy will be placed on reserve. If heavy use or class size warrants, additional copies may be added.
- New music books, scores, recordings, and videos. Please allow 6-8 weeks when requesting new orders for your reserve course. The UVic Libraries provide a cost share arrangement with departments and may share up to 50% of the cost of a VHS, DVD, or Blu-ray purchase. Please contact Bill Blair, Music and Media Librarian for new materials requests.
- Photocopies of articles from journals or a limited number of pages from a book or score. Whole issues of journals will not be placed on reserve. Instructors must provide their own photocopies. (Please note that photocopies will be bound, so leave a 1" left-hand margin when possible). Photocopies will be limited to 1 per 25 students, to a maximum of three copies.
- Electronic links to journal articles & other databases. We are able to offer an electronic link to journal articles that are available via full text, online databases licensed for use by UVic. We also have online audio and score databases that can be linked to reserve. Please provide author, title, and a URL.
- Personal copies of music books, scores, recordings, and videos supplied by the department or instructor. While we attempt to ensure the security of personal copies, we are not responsible for loss or damage.
- Student materials supplied by the department or instructor. In compliance with the Copyright Act, the University of Victoria Libraries require written permission from the student in order to place his/her work on reserve.
Guidelines
- The number of items on reserve for any course may be reviewed and, after consultation with the instructor, limited.
- To accommodate all requests and in consideration of library space, processing costs, and overall user needs, only required readings may be placed on reserve.
- All reserve requests must comply with the University of Victoria's Access Copyright agreement, the Canadian Copyright Act, and video licensing. This means duplicated audio and video, including on-air recordings, may not be placed on reserve. Video materials will only be placed on reserve if public performance rights can be obtained.
