Records management

The University of Victoria’s Records Management Program is operated by the University Archives; the development and implementation of the Program is overseen by university committees.
Robust records management, developed within a framework that includes privacy and information security, enables effective business processes, privacy compliance, and the retention of corporate memory.
The Directory of Records is the primary tool through which the Records Management policy (IM7700) is implemented. The Directory of Records classifies the records of the university based on the university’s functions, rather than by organizational structure, since administrative units and their responsibilities change with relative frequency while the university’s main functions do not. The Directory of Records includes retention schedules with these classifications to provide an integrated method of managing the records.
Archives staff are available to provide unit-specific advice and training. Please see the following links for policy and procedures, the Directory of Records, and our records management guidelines and tools.
