Advising and programs
We offer a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Slavic Studies in the general or major programs.
- If you plan to take a program with us you should consult the Undergraduate advisor Dr. Megan Swift concerning course selection.
- Students specializing in particular programs will have enough electives to concentrate (double major) in a second field. Course selection is important, particularly if you’re wishing to enter graduate school, teaching, library work, or government service.
- Students with advanced credit or competence in Russian will be placed at an appropriate level. Consult the undergraduate advisor.
- Students with prior knowledge of Russian may be granted transfer credit if that knowledge came from a recognized academic course
- No courses may be challenged for credit.
- If you plan to take either a general or major BA in Russian, you must have a satisfactory standing in courses at the 200 level.

General and minor programs
You must take 7.5 units of introductory courses and 9 units at the 300 or 400 level, including at least one of RUSS 300A 300B AND 303.

Major program
You must have at least a C+ average in a minimum of 7.5 units of introductory courses for admission into a major program. During third and fourth years, the major consists of a minimum of 15 units at the 300 and 400 levels. It must include one of RUSS 300A, RUSS 300B or RUSS303, and one of RUSS 308A or RUSS 308B.
Students interested pursuing a major in Russian Studies should consult the department early during their undergraduate studies. Majors must have their third- and fourth-year programs approved by the department.
