Leanne Kelly awarded the 2021 Faculty of Human and Social Development Internal Teaching Scholarship Grant

Congratulations to Leanne Kelly, PhD student in the Social Dimensions of Health and Assistant Teaching Professor in the School of Nursing, on being awarded the 2021 Faculty of Human and Social Development Internal Teaching Scholarship Grant! Ms. Kelly’s project ‘Reciprocal Educator Mentorship’ is a cross cutting community engaged teaching project that links Indigenous nurses who practice in the community with non-Indigenous faculty members with a view to disrupting inequity in understandings of Indigenous Health and Wellness.

In her words, Leanne aims to “create transformational opportunities for learning through supporting Indigenous pedagogies and Indigenous cognitive world articulation, AND, to elevate personal narratives as knowledge and support the development of Indigenous nursing experience as evidence.” Leanne’s doctoral work will build from this project and investigate the ways in which undergraduate nursing students find their own stories supported by Indigenous pedagogies as they learn to navigate the racialized tensions in health care.
