Welcoming Dr. Robert Beringer to the School of Public Health and Social Policy

The faculty and staff of the School of Public Health and Social Policy are pleased to announce that Dr. Robert Beringer joined PHSP as an assistant professor on September 15, 2021.

Robert joins us after the completion of his CIHR Health Systems Impact Post-Doctoral Fellowship, where he explored 2SLGBTQ+ Engagement with Hospice and Palliative Care in the Island Health region.

Robert is a member of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation and is a settler in Western Canada. He was born and raised in Vancouver BC, and has lived in Southwestern BC (Vancouver, Whistler, Salt Spring Island) his entire life.

He is a gerontologist and his overarching research interests centre around aging. His early research was focused on the physiological aspects of aging. He then moved to study technology and aging, in particular the study of technologies that would help people remain in their homes and age-in-place. Since 2015, much of his research has been focused on older members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

Robert looks forward to mentoring students on a variety of aging oriented projects, especially those that possess a health equity focus.
