Catherine Claiter
Influencing electronic healthcare systems
Catherine Claiter, BSc (Health Information Science) '00, is influencing healthcare systems as Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the Vancouver Island Health Authority.
Catherine has quickly risen to national and international prominence in health information science. She's influencing the quality, productivity and sustainability of our health care system in the province and internationally.
more...As CIO, Catherine has influenced several national and provincial initiatives as healthcare gradually moves from paper to electronic files -- not bad for someone who'd never turned on a computer until arriving at UVic and didn't really like computer science courses!
Maintaining strong ties to HSD
Catherine maintains strong ties to the Faculty of Human and Social Development and has inspired students to pursue careers in health informatics. She offers co-op positions at her workplace and allows students to job shadow. She provides students with opportunities to directly engage in conversations about the field of health information science.
Many students have said their interaction with her was crucial to their decision to continue with a degree in health informatics and their ongoing professional success. Alumni like Catherine are influencing the community. Learn more about health information science.
