ABSTRACT

Domain-Specific Languages (DSLs) are ubiquitous in the computer domain. This fact is often not realized by programmers and users alike. Typically, HTML documents, shell scripts, and X resource files are not perceived as DSLs. Still, they all have common features that qualify them as such. In fact, many pro-grammers design and implement DSLs unknowingly, thus reinventing the wheel and ignoring valuable research results.

This talk starts with an informal introduction to DSLs. Subsequently, DSLs are discussed in the context of software engineering, addressing topics such as do-main analysis, development process, software reuse, and maintenance.
