ABSTRACT

Abstract

The Cramer Rao Lower Bound (CRLB) of the energy based received signal strength difference (RSSD) source positioning algorithm is investigated. The CRLB provides a lower limit on the covariance matrix of an unbiased estimator based on the Fisher Information matrix (FIM). The effect of correlated measurement noise on the CRLB is evaluated in order to derive a tight bound for comparison with simulation results. The effect of position uncertainty on the CRLB is also evaluated using the joint pdf of the measurement noise and sensor position errors. This can be used to determine the degradation in performance due to errors in the sensor locations. The sensitivity of the change in the CRLB with respect to the measurement noise, number of sensors and path loss exponent is examined for both near field and far field scenarios.
