ABSTRACT

Abstract:

Logging exercise data has become more prominent in recent years. Exercise data can be used to track progress, as positive feedback or competitive motivation to exercise. The majority of this recorded data comes from rotation based exercise equipment, such as stationary bikes, treadmills, ellipticals and rowing machines because it is easy to do so with rotational sensors or electromechanical resistance. Currently, there is no method of recording exercise data from gym equipment that utilizes weight stacks and pulleys as resistance. This project proposes a method of collecting data from retrofitted weight stack equipment using off the shelf sensors and microcontrollers.
