ABSTRACT

Health Information Grid is a research initiative of the netlab group (Department of Computer Science, University of Victoria). This project is aimed at developing a middleware mediation technology for large scale, asynchronously evolving distributed networks of interoperating medical organizations based on Grid paradigm. HIG networks represent sets of interconnected flexible customizable components that perform various manipulations of medical data such as transport, translation, merging, and enrichment. Because compositions of HIG components are based on a strict syntax, namely Petri-Net modeling graphs, and for performance reasons, predefined connections between components would exist and be reused as proven pathways for data interchange. However as these networks evolve to accommodate change, dynamic adaptation of such pathways is required. Therefore, as part of our research, we present Intelligent Reconfiguration Agent (IRA), a mechanism for dynamic reconfiguration of Health Information Grid.
