ABSTRACT:

Plane-wave ultrasound imaging enables the capture of images at a very high rate. In the process of reconstructing these images, the conventional delay-and-sum beamforming technique can be replaced with the quicker Fourier-domain remapping method. However, to increase the resolution of the image in the lateral dimension, postbeamforming interpolation is usually necessary. To accomplish this, we propose using a fast and lightweight superresolution convolutional neural network (CNN) that operates on the Fourier-beamformed envelope data.

Our results show that our approach produces enhanced ultrasound images with higher quality compared to non-CNN interpolation options and the conventional delay-and-sum beamforming technique.
