ABSTRACT

In the case of acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) imaging, a single ultrasound transducer will induce and monitor a deformation response. A typical ARFI sequence consists of three pulse types: 1) Reference pulse, which is used to establish a baseline position of the tissue before the acoustic radiation force excitation; 2) Pushing pulse is used to generate the force to induce localized deformation; and 3) Tracking pulse is applied immediately following the pushing pulse, which is used to monitor the deformation response and recovery of the soft tissue. In our work, we are using: 1) Frequency-domain migration as a beamforming technique; 2) Lateral Time-to-Peak (TTP) displacement algorithm for Shear Wave velocity estimation ; and 3) Averaging Disc post-filters to generate elastographic (Young’s Modulus) images. We illustrate our imaging results based on the public-domain plane-wave experimental data obtained from a 10-mm 80-KPa spherical phantom set in the 25-KPa background.
