ABSTRACT

The work reported in this talk targets light field applications such as content replacement and fusion. We develop new solutions to these problems by performing simple operations on the light field gradient values.

A necessary and important step in these gradient-based solutions is recovering the light field from an often times non-integrable gradient data set. Inspired by successful existing 2-D and 3-D reconstruction techniques, we propose a new algorithm to reconstruct a light field from a given gradient data set. The algorithm begins by finding the wavelet decomposition of the light field from the given gradient, and continues with a wavelet synthesis step, in which the light field is obtained.

We then analyze the performance of the algorithm on a number of datasets, and use it in two light field editing algorithms. The results show that the 4-D reconstruction algorithm is valuable to gradient based light field editing techniques.
