This 90-minute info session is intended for anyone involved in communications and marketing projects in their academic or administrative unit.

You will learn:

  • What is the UVic Edge and why was it developed 
  • What are the elements of Edge look and feel
  • What are the Edge messages and voice, and how can you use them
  • What are Edge styles of photography and video
  • What are the available tools, templates and supports to assist Edge implementation

You'll also have an opportunity to ask questions about the Edge brand guidelines.

Capturing the Edge: Choosing engaging photos for your website

This one-hour workshop is intended for anyone who manages content for academic and administrative websites at UVic.

You will learn:

  • What are the Edge brand guidelines regarding photos

This one hour workshop is intended for UVic social media managers.

  • Tips for creating posts that connect with your audiences
  • The best times to post to reach your audiences
  • Resources to make your accounts look their best 

Using social media strategically

This one hour workshop is intended for UVic social media managers or anyone who is considering creating a new UVic account.

Topics include:

  • What is social media and why should you use it?
  • What you can use Facebook and Twitter for
  • Basics of social media strategy
  • UVic’s social media guidelines
  • Challenges facing all social media managers and strategies to overcome them

Filming the Edge: Video production at UVic

This 90-minute workshop is intended for anyone tasked with project managing and/or producing a video in their academic and administrative units at UVic.

You will learn:

  • When to use video
  • What are Edge video styles
  • ​What are the Edge brand guidelines regarding videos
  • How other universities are using video
  • Ways to have your video produced
  • How much video production costs
  • What process to follow while project managing / producing a video
  • Resources available on and off campus to assist you
  • Where to find online resources and tools
  • How to share your video
  • Time for discussion and questions at the end

Do-it-yourself video production at UVic

This two hour workshop is intended for anyone tasked with producing their own videos in their academic and administrative units at UVic. Bring your own camera, audio equipment and tripod (if you have them).

Pre-requisite: "Filming the Edge: Video production at UVic​"

You will learn:​

  • How to fill out a client brief
  • How to scout locations and schedule your shoot
  • Lighting principles

  • How to frame your shot
