Research Chair positions are used to attract and retain the best research talent from around the world. Research Chairholders advance the frontiers of knowledge in their fields through their research and teaching.

Canada 150 Research Chairs for Internationally Based Researchers and Scholars

The University of Victoria is participating in the Canada 150 Research Chair program announced by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. Outstanding international scholars were invited to submit expressions of interest to be nominated for Research Chairs in the following research areas:

•    Materials Science
•    Translational Proteomics
•    Energy Systems
•    Indigenous Nationhood
•    Performance and Cultural Studies
•    Oceans and Climate
•    Data Science

The deadline for expressions of interest was noon on 26 July 2017. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted by individual search committees prior to 15 August 2017.  Details of the Canada150 Research Chair program are available at http://www.canada150.chairs-chaires.gc.ca.

The Canada Research Chairs program helps universities to attract and retain the best talent from around the world, assisting universities like the University of Victoria to achieve research excellence in natural sciences and engineering, health sciences, and social sciences and humanities.

Chairholders advance the frontiers of knowledge in their fields, not only through their own work, but also by teaching and supervising students and coordinating the work of other researchers.

The University of Victoria was recognized in 2012 with the inaugural Canada Research Chair Equity Recognition for its exemplary practices in recruiting Canada Research Chairs and exceeding its equity targets for chairholder representation from among women, visible minorities and Aboriginal Peoples. In 2015, UVic was recognized again for its exemplary practices.

UVic currently holds 38 Canada Research Chairs:
