Pens and Pints transcription night a great success
About twenty people (undergrads, grad students, postdocs, sessionals, and faculty from English and History) came out to the Pens & Pints event hosted by Erin Kelly & Kim McLean-Fiander on October 8th at the UVic Grad House.
Five teams (The Antiquarians, Team Awesome, The Machiavellians, The Golden Snitches, and The Bare Bodkins) went head-to-head and hand-to-hand transcribing 17th C texts, including recipes for headaches ("An approvide medicine for the megrinne") and some smutty poetry from a Miscellany of Henry Oxinden.
The Golden Snitches won the first round and the Bare Bodkins the next. Their reward? Free pints, of course!
Thanks to everyone for making this such a fun and enlightening evening! Given the positive feedback, we may well offer a similar event again next term.
