Join the Faculty of Education for a walking tour to appreciate, admire and celebrate Aboriginal Artwork on campus as a means for sharing perspective on how the Faculty has, and will continue to, engage in respectful relationships with our Aboriginal communities. Mechanical Engineering EcoCAR Demonstration

Try out the EcoCAR simulator used to predict behaviour, performance and fuel consumption, and watch EcoCAR modelling demonstrations.

EcoCAR 2: Plugging Into the Future is a three-year collegiate engineering competition, and the only program of its kind. Established by the United States Department of Energy and General Motors and managed by Argonne National Laboratory, the competition offers an unparalleled hands-on, real-world experience to educate the next generation of automotive engineers. Each university team is challenged to reduce the environmental impact of a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu through an extensive vehicle re-design to minimize fuel consumption and emissions without compromising consumer acceptability in the areas of safety, performance and appeal.

Helen Lansdowne, Associate Director (11:15 am - 11:30 am)

Helen will welcome our visitors and give a short presentation outlining CAPI's activities and upcoming events. She will introduce each of our recently returned interns, who will give short presentations on their experiences and answer any questions. These placements are part of CAPI's 2011-2012 Students for Development Program, funded by the Canadian International Development Agency.

Haydn Shook (11:30 am - 11:50 am)

Haydn worked for six months as a Program Assistant with the Migrant Forum in Asia in Quezon City, Philippines. Haydn is currently studying Law at UVic with an interest in social justice and human rights. Before entering into Law, Haydn volunteered at Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Society, and completed an undergraduate degree at UVic's Department of Pacific and Asian Studies.

Mikaela Robertson (12:00 pm - 12:20 pm)

Mikaela worked for six months as a Program Assistant with the Center for Migrant Advocacy in Quezon City, Philippines. Mikaela is currently studying Law at UVic after completing her BA in Political Science and International Development Studies. She is deeply committed to promoting social justice, women's rights and migrants' rights. Prior to this internship, Mikaela worked as a Poverty Law Advocate at a Women's Center in Northern BC.

Kelly Lindsay (12:30 pm - 12:50 pm)

Kelly will be our first intern in Bangladesh and will be working as a Program Assistant for three months with WARBE Development Foundation, a civil society organization which focuses on Migrant Rights in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Kelly is currently a student at UVic working towards her BA in Religious Studies. She has a passion for the promotion of human rights and individual dignity, as well as community building initiatives.

Mahmundul Haque (1:00 pm - 1:30 pm)

Mahmudul Haque is visiting the University of Victoria from Bangladesh, where he is currently working on his doctorate in Political Science at the University of Rajshahi. He is our first visiting graduate student from Bangladesh. CAPI will be hosting his four-month internship as part of the Students for Development Program.
