UVic Libraries' imprint

In 2013, the University of Victoria Libraries launched its imprint, and published the first in a continuing series of publications devoted to our archives and special collections. The publications support the Libraries' commitment to dynamic learning and vital impact and are meant to illustrate, in an accessible format, the rich collections housed at the University of Victoria.

Guest edited by UVic Libraries’ Postdoctoral Fellow J. Visually stunning, with over 140 pages of high quality images, this latest offering under UVic Libraries’ publishing imprint showcases the rich heritage maintained at the University of Victoria.

Produced in partnership by Vikes Athletics and Recreation and the University of Victoria Libraries, UVic Athletics: A Tradition of Excellence, The McKinnon Years chronicles the history of sport at the University of Victoria. Written by local sportswriter and former UVic Southam Lecturer Tom Hawthorn, the publication is richly illustrated with photographs from the University of Victoria Libraries' Special Collections and University Archives and Vikes Athletics. As the third publication in the Libraries’ award-winning imprint, UVic Athletics: A Tradition of Excellence outlines the forty years of sporting excellence and facilities that define “the McKinnon Years.”

The publication explains the origins and explores the holdings of the Transgender Archives at the University of Victoria Libraries. The Transgender Archives is the largest collection of transgender archival materials in the world. It is accessible to the public free of charge, and available to faculty, students, and scholars for teaching and research.

The Seghers Collection: Old Books for a New World

The Seghers Collection: Old Books for a New World by Dr. Hélène Cazes is the first publication under the University Libraries' imprint. The publication explores the bibliographic history of the Seghers Collection, their spiritual and religious significance within the Catholic tradition and their attributed owner, Charles John Seghers (26 December 1839 - 28 November 1886), the second Archbishop of Victoria.

Award winning exhibit catalogue

The Lion and the Fox: Art and Literary Works by Wyndham Lewis from the C.J. Fox Collection is a 48-page catalogue with full colour reproductions by Information Services Librarian Danielle Forster for the Lion and the Fox Exhibition of art and literary works by Wyndham Lewis that took place April 1 - May 28, 2009. The catalogue was the winner of the 2010 Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Rare Books and Manuscripts Section (RBMS) Leab American Book Prices Current Exhibition Award (Division Three).
