Checking for broken links

Check your website regularly for broken links. Links are often broken when changes happen on another site, such as:

  • deleting a page
  • renaming a file
  • launching a new site

Try creating a monthly meeting in your calendar to remind yourself to check for broken links.

Using a browser add-on

Use a browser add-on/extension to check for broken links one page at a time.

We recommend Check My Links in Chrome. It will highlight all your broken links in red so you can quickly see what's broken.

It may take a few minutes to check a page, as there are quite a lot of links in the global menu. You can't check a whole site at once, just one page at a time.
