Post-secondary sector announces joint purchasing consortium

All 25 of BC’s public post-secondary institutions have partnered together to form a purchasing consortium that will allow all the schools to pursue the benefits of joint procurement.

The consortium is voluntary and cooperative, with the goals of achieving: (1) value for money; (2) enhanced collaboration; (3) strategic supply management; and (4) development of procurement best practices.

The initial scope for the new consortium includes procurement for vending services, natural gas, electrical supplies, office supplies and travel services.

UVic’s Vice-President Finance and Operations Gayle Gorrill has been selected to chair the newly formed eight-member Joint Procurement Committee. The committee will ensure effective governance and develop operating procedures for joint procurement.

Joint procurement is part of the broader Administrative Services Delivery Transformation (ASDT) initiative.  This collaborative work, led by the public post-secondary sector and in partnership with the Ministry of Advanced Education, focuses on saving money, achieving administrative efficiencies, sharing best practices and enhancing service quality.
