External relations and communications

Responsibility of the chair/director

It is the duty of the chair/director to advance the interests of the department in accordance with the goals of the university in the wider university community through:

  • services on committees
  • participation in formal and informal consultations and projects
  • liaison with a wide range of units, including both academic and administrative
  • providing advice to the dean of the faculty and to the dean of the faculty of graduate studies
  • supporting connections with external organizations appropriate to the discipline

External relations

The Division of External Relations oversees and promotes the university's relations through alumni services, community relations, ceremonies and events, communications, development, government relations and marketing.

UVic Communications

UVic Communications provides central communications support services to campus units, on behalf of the university as a whole. They are responsible for our relationship with local, regional and national media, and ensuring that the institutional perspective is communicated effectively on issues of concern to its range of target audiences.

Government Relations

Government Relations promotes the relevance of UVic's research and teaching to various levels of government in order to gain support and funding for base budgets, major projects, research activities and other priorities.
