Administrative and professional experience

Jim Dunsdon was appointed associate vice-president student affairs on May 1, 2009. Prior to joining UVic he served as associate vice-provost (student services) at the University of Calgary. Mr. Dunsdon received a Bachelor of Education from the University of Victoria in 1995 and an MBA in Education Management from the University of Leicester, UK in 2005.

Student Affairs is dedicated to supporting student success at UVic. In this position, reporting to the vice-president academic and provost, the associate vice-president student affairs is responsible for overseeing the programs and services involved in ensuring the overall quality of the student experience.

The range of comprehensive services represented by this division include: Academic Advising (Tri-Faculty); Athletics and Recreation; Child Care Services; Counselling Services; Health Services; Graduate Admissions and Records;  Indigenous Affairs; International Student Experience; Judicial Affairs; Multifaith Services; Printing Services; Residence Services; Resource Centre for Students with a Disability; Student Recruitment; Student Awards and Financial Aid; Undergraduate Admissions and Records; University Bookstore and University Food Services.

Key areas of focus for the associate vice-president student affairs include:

  • enrollment management
  • development and implementation of innovative initiatives to support student success
  • ensuring effective integration and collaboration across all areas of recruitment, admissions, registration, and student support
  • building strong and cooperative working relationships with the University of Victoria Students' Society and the Graduate Students' Society
