Vice-President External Relations Appointment

The University of Victoria is pleased to announce that Chris Horbachewski has been appointed as Vice-President External Relations, effective Feb. 1, 2020.

Mr. Horbachewski will be joining us from the University of Lethbridge, where he has served as the Vice-President, Advancement since 2005. Prior to that, Mr. Horbachewski held a variety of fundraising and advancement leadership positions at the University of Manitoba between 1997 and 2005. He has a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science from the University of Calgary.

The appointment follows an international search conducted in accordance with Policy GV0320. In the course of the search, a strong field of candidates was considered and the search committee's recommendation was enthusiastically approved by the Board of Governors on Oct. 28, 2019.

Mr. Horbachewski has a wealth of experience and a record of success in every aspect of external relations, including development, alumni relations, marketing and communications, and government relations. He has demonstrated strong leadership skills, a deep commitment to collaboration and community engagement, and is an excellent and authentic communicator.

Our university is in a very strong position, with great momentum moving us forward. I am excited for the contributions Mr. Horbachewski will make in an exciting new era for UVic. Please join me in welcoming him to campus in his new role.

To ensure a smooth transition, Carmen Charette has kindly agreed to continue in her role as Vice-President External Relations until the end of January 2020.
