University of Victoria Chancellor Appointment Launched

Nominations and suggestions are being sought for candidates to become the next Chancellor of the University of Victoria. Chancellor Shelagh Rogers completes her second and final term at the end of 2021.

The Chancellor is appointed by the Board of Governors, under the authority of the University Act. They are an ambassador and champion for the university. The Chancellor serves as the titular head of the institution, is the chair of convocation, confers degrees and performs other ceremonial functions. The Chancellor also holds a seat on the Board of Governors and Senate.

The successful candidate will have a record of outstanding achievement in their field, be highly respected within the university and the external community, and have the time, qualifications and characteristics necessary to fulfill the Chancellor’s duties. A search committee, led by Board chair Cathy McIntyre, has been struck under the university’s procedures for the appointment of the Chancellor.  It will accept nominations and suggestions until July 31, 2021.
