Former Youth in Care

If you're a UVic student who was formerly in care in BC, you may be eligible for financial help.

BC Provincial Tuition Waiver program

Students who are 19-26 years old and who were formerly in care in BC for a combined two years or more can apply for a tuition waiver. Download and submit the form below and UVic will process your application for the program.

UVic Youth in Care Tuition Award

The UVic Youth in Care Tuition Award covers the cost of tuition and fees for the completion of a first undergraduate degree. Some applicants may also receive funding for books, supplies and living expenses.

To be eligible, you must:

  • be admitted to the University of Victoria and entering your first undergraduate degree program (transfer students also welcome)
  • demonstrate financial need
  • be a resident of British Columbia
  • have been formerly in care in BC for a total of 12 months or more (consecutive or accumulated)
  • be 19 years of age or older
  • have received care as defined here
  • register in and maintain a minimum 60% course load in each term of study (40% for students with a permanent disability)

How do you apply?

Application deadlines are March 31 (fall term and summer session) and October 31 (spring term and summer session).
