Configure your UVic Webmail with your iPhone


You can configure your UVic Webmail account for use with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch device. While these instructions were written for the iPhone, they can be applied to other iOS devices as well. Please note that the process is different for faculty and staff with a Microsoft Exchange account. These instructions represent the setup on an iPhone running iOS 12.1.2.

1.  Tap on the Settings icon on your iOS device. Then tap on the Accounts & Passwords icon.

2.  Tap Add Account.

3. In the list of email providers, tap Other.

4.  While in the Other section, tap Add Mail Account:

5.  On the New Account screen, enter the following information:

  • Name: Your name as you want it to apear on outgoing messages
  • Address: Your UVic email address (NetlinkID@uvic.ca)
  • Password: Your UVic webmail password (i.e., your NetLink ID password)
  • Description: UVic Webmail (or something else that you will identify)

     and then tap Next.

6.  Ensure the server type is IMAP.

Under the Incoming Mail Server, enter the following information:

  • Host Name: imap.uvic.ca
  • User Name: Your NetLink ID (i.e. the first part of your UVic email address)
  • Password: Your UVic webmail password (i.e., your NetLink ID password)

and tap Next

Under Outgoing Mail Server, enter the following information:

  • Host Name: smtp.uvic.ca
  • Leave the User Name and Password fields blank

Then click Next.

7.  Click Save. After a few moments (this can take up to a couple of minutes), your account should be verified.

8.  Your iOS device should now be connected. However, there is one more step. Under Passwords & Accounts, tap your UVic Webmail account in the list.

Tap on SMTP under Outgoing Mail Server.

Click on smpt.uvic.ca.

SSL will be turned ON by default. Please switch this to OFF, confirm that the Server Port is 25, and leave the User name and Password fields blank. Tap Done.

9.  Select Advanced and verify SSL is ON. As an additional step you can tidy the folders displayed in your account. Go into your account and tap Advanced. Then, under Incoming Settings there should be IMAP Path Prefix. Type ~/mail. This will hide any non-essential/non-user created folders.

10.  Your UVic Webmail account is now added successfully.
