Change your preferred name and title

Your preferred first name is the name by which you are normally addressed, and can be different than your legal first name registered with UVic. It is used together with your last name in a number of university systems.  For faculty and staff this includes but is not limited to:

  • Exchange Email and Calendar - This is the name on all of your outgoing emails and in the Global Address List
  • UVic Online Directory - This is the name used for your directory entry

To change your preferred name:

  1. Sign into UVic with your NetLink ID and password.
  2. Click on Personal Profile tab, located in the top left of the page.

  3. Click on Change your preferred first name.

  4. Your current preferred and display names will appear. To change or add a prefix (title) or preferred first name, enter your new information in the Update Prefix and Preferred Name fields and click Submit.

  5. If the Update Prefix and Preferred Name fields are left blank, your name will default to your name registered with Human Resources or Admissions and Records.
