Microsoft 365 for all UVic students by September 2 2022

We’re excited to announce that Microsoft 365 accounts will be provisioned for all students by September 2, 2022. The Microsoft 365 collaboration suite will give you access to Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Teams for courses or clubs, OneDrive to store or share coursework, and a feature-packed email service. As part of these changes, Microsoft 365 email will become the email service provider for all students and your UVic email will be automatically upgraded by September 2, 2022.
Microsoft 365 email delivers more than just email. You can:
- Send and receive email in a breeze with our modern and mobile-friendly interface.
- Use the calendar to organize your busy life. Import your course schedule and Brightspace assignment due dates, arrange a meeting, and more.
- Manage all your to-do’s. Set reminders, share files, and assign tasks to others.
- Access a list of key UVic contacts in one place.
New UVic students
As a new UVic student, you will be issued a Microsoft 365 email account automatically. You will receive an email when it has been created.
Current UVic students
Current UVic students can get ahead of the game and sign up for M365 Email for Students now in UVic’s Online Services portal.
Unless you forward your UVic email to a personal address, we strongly recommend you sign-up this Summer at a time that suits your schedule. If you haven’t signed up by August 17, your account will be automatically migrated between August 18 and September 2.
Accounts migrated between August 18 and September 2 will have their emails and inbox folders automatically migrated into the new email system within 24 hours of Microsoft 365 email account creation.
Some items will not automatically migrate into the new system:
- Inbox rules (filters)
- Vacation auto-replies
- Email signatures
- Contacts

You will be sent an email to your old UVic email account when your account upgrade has completed, you can check for this message at https://webmail.uvic.ca. After the upgrade is complete, you will be able to access your new UVic Microsoft 365 email account at https://outlook.office.com.
Email forwarding
Did you already have forwarding set-up in webmail? Don't worry, we'll set that up for you when you get upgraded!
Important: email forwarding won't work for up to 24 hours while your account is being upgraded. You'll still receive emails to your new your new UVic email account. We recommend you manually check your new UVic email account at https://outlook.office.com until the forwarding begins again.
Self-service tools for student email forwarding will be coming this Fall. Until then you can contact the Computer Help Desk for help with changing your email forwarding. We'll post more information in our student email help section as features are rolled out.
