University Systems upgrading NetLink ID passphrase security

University Systems is upgrading our NetLink ID passphrase security to support the UVic security standards:

  1. We are increasing the minimum passphrase length from 8 to 12 characters and the maximum length from 30 to 128 characters to allow for longer passphrases
  2. We are enabling all 95 ASCII characters (including spaces) to be used in passphrases
  3. We are ensuring that the new passphrases are not part of commonly used and/or already compromised credentials

In addition to the above, we will also send automatic emails to users when their passphrase has been changed so that if they didn't initiate the change, they can seek assistance from the Computer Help Desk.

These new features will be available on June 2nd.  Existing passphrases will not be impacted; to take advantage of these new features, please change your passphrase after June 2, 2021.
