Gift card scam

Some UVic users have been targeted by a phishing scam where they are asked to purchase iTunes or similar gift cards on behalf of a colleague or to make a payment. After the user provides the card details to the fraudulent individual, the funds spent are not traceable. Apple has posted a notice about this scam on their website:

When speaking with anyone, use contact information that is available through trusted sources such as the UVic directory or official websites. Avoid replying to emails or calling phone numbers that you do not recognize.
