Virus infected email attachments

Virus infected email attachments are being sent to @uvic.ca email accounts.

Virus infected emails are circulating with .zip file attachments, (e.g. “My_documen.zip”)  that contain a virus infected .exe file.  They may appear to come from another UVic email address.

While we have multiple measures in place to detect and block these types of threats as we become aware of them, the best way to protect yourself is to be wary of unexpected or suspicious attachments.

When receiving an email with unexpected or suspicious attachments, we recommend deleting the email. If it is from a known sender, contact the sender to find out if the attachment is legitimate prior to opening it.
