Thank you to STUA staff

Dear STUA colleagues,

As we near the end of an academic year unlike any in UVic’s history, we want to thank you—our dedicated colleagues in Student Affairs—for everything you have done and continue to do in support of our students and university.

Everyone in Student Affairs has played an incredibly important role in UVic’s response and management of the COVID-19 pandemic. We have seen numerous examples of individuals and teams overcoming unexpected challenges, including transitioning vital services and support programs to online delivery. Through your efforts, we have supported more students with their mental health and wellbeing than ever before, distributed a record number of financial supports, helped diverse student groups navigate new barriers to access, and ensured students could achieve their academic goals.

We also launched new supports that have become integral elements of the UVic student experience. The Classroom Safety Ambassador program, New Student Connect program, Student Wellness Centre, SupportConnect program, virtual Vikes memberships and the launch of the MOD are just a few examples of these outstanding efforts. You did all of this while many of you juggled new working arrangements, evolving health and safety measures, care for loved ones and more.

Thank you for your continued commitment to UVic and our students, as well as your perseverance and resiliency during this time. We hope that you find some time this summer to rest and recharge—you have certainly earned it!

On behalf of our entire academic community, and especially our students, thank you for everything you have done over this past year to ensure a transformational UVic student experience. We could not have done it without you.

Yours sincerely,

Valerie S. Kuehne, Vice-President Academic and Provost
Jim Dunsdon, Associate Vice-President Student Affairs
