Meet Dr. Oona Hayes

Family Physician

On leave

I completed my medical school training at McMaster University and did my family practice residency at UBC. I was in full-service family practice from 2001-09 and continue to teach part-time in the Island Medical program.

I joined UVic Health in 2011 and am currently the co-lead for mental health clinical care. I helped develop the BC HIV testing guidelines in 2014 and have an interest in sexual health, including transgender care.

I’m an avid reader and recommend the book “The Brain that Changes Itself.” I am also a mom and wife, and an aspiring runner.
