Meet Libbie

About
My name is Libbie and I am an advanced practicum counsellor at the SWC. I am currently in the second year of my MA in Counselling Psychology at UVic. I identify as a cisgender woman and my pronouns are she and her.
I grew up in Delta on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the scəw̓aθən (Tsawwassen), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) First Nations. I moved to Ontario for my undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Guelph where I also played varsity sport. I moved back to the west coast to complete my master’s in kinesiology (sport and exercise psychology) at UBC. I have now been an uninvited visitor on the unceded and traditional territories of the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples since 2021.
In my spare time I like to go hiking and camping, and I try to spend as much time near the ocean as possible! When it is too rainy for outdoor activities, I enjoy baking and reading.
*Note: Advanced Practicum counsellors are here from Sept 2022 to April 2023.
Counselling approach
I completed my first year practicum at the SWC and supported students with concerns around mood (e.g., anxiety, depression), body image, confidence and self-esteem, academic and sport challenges, grief and loss, life transitions, and relationship dynamics (e.g., peers, family, intimate partners, etc.).
