Meet Aleigha

About

Hello! My name is Aleigha and I am an advanced practicum counsellor here at the Student Wellness Centre. I have European heritage and I have been an uninvited visitor on the lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ lands for much of my life. I identify as a cisgender woman, and I use she/her pronouns. I am a second-year graduate student here at Uvic completing my MA in Counselling Psychology.

My background is in education, and I have spent the last few years teaching abroad in Spain and the USA. I completed my undergraduate degree in the American Midwest, where I also played college varsity softball. Living internationally was a humbling and gratifying experience and has informed my compassion and empathy for international students studying here in Canada.

I have spent much of my life working, studying, and playing on these beautiful Coast Salish lands, and when I’m not working or studying, you can find me exploring the island with my puppy, Sunshine! I have experience working with populations including refugees, international students, and speakers of English as an additional language. I am passionate about helping folks find healing and peace in their lives and am grateful for the opportunity to work with students here at Uvic. I feel honoured to witness your story and learn alongside you!
