The University of Victoria and the Faculty of Social Sciences offer various types of support for carrying out research-related activities.

Undergraduate and Graduate Students

If you are applying for funding from one of the federal Tri-Councils (NSERC, SSHRC, or CIHR), Graduate Studies offers a grantscrafting service.

If you seeking funding from other sources to carry out your research and need help preparing and submitting an application, contact the in the Dean's Office for assistance.

Your academic unit's undergraduate and graduate advisors can also provide assistance.

Faculty members and Postdoctoral fellows

If you seeking funding to carry out your research, contact the in the Dean's Office for assistance with:

  • Finding and applying for research funding
  • Preparing and submitting grant applications
  • Getting feedback on a draft proposal
  • Securing regulatory approval for your research prior to applying for funding

Contact the in the Office of Research Services for assistance with:

  • Determining whether to pursue grant funds versus contract or contribution agreements
  • Designing a budget to include with a grant application
  • Getting administrative feedback on a draft proposal

If you are planning to apply to the Canada Foundation for Innovation, BC Knowledge Development Fund program, Canada Research Chairs program, or the Leading Edge Endowment Fund, contact in the Office of Research Services to secure UVic approval prior to applying to any of these funding programs.

For contracts or contribution agreements, contact in the Office of Research Services for assistance with:

  • reviewing and negotiating acceptable terms and conditions of award with the sponsor, after consultation with the principal investigator
  • authorizing contract and contribution agreements on behalf of the University of Victoria
  • ensuring that invoices are submitted to the sponsor
