International Workshop on Financial System Architecture and Stability (IWFSAS): 10-11 September 2018
The International Workshop on Financial System Architecture and Stability (IWFSAS) aims at providing a forum for academic researchers and policy makers to discuss issues related to the structure and design of financial systems and their impact on growth and financial stability. The overall objective of this annual event is to facilitate discussions of high quality policy relevant research papers that inform our understanding of how various financial sector policies can affect the architecture and stability of the financial system and the overall economy, nationally, regionally and globally.
In this third annual meeting of IWFSAS, the feature topic was financial innovation, including financial technology (“Fintech”). We welcomed theoretical and empirical contributions on Fintech and financial innovation and their impact on the structure and stability of the financial system, in addition to the topics of general interest to IWFSAS.
This year’s IWFSAS meeting was hosted by the Centre for Banking Research at Cass Business School, in collaboration with the Gustavson School of Business and the Department of Economics at the University of Victoria. Dr. Paul Schure acted as Program Chair for this conference.

Unsettling Economics: 25-27 June 2018
The "Unsettling Economics" workshop gathered 15–25 internationally renowned Indigenous and non-Indigenous scholars, representatives of Indigenous organizations, civil servants, and students in economics. The three-day workshop included training, presentations of innovative research by scholars, and workshops to develop new curricular materials (e.g. course syllabi and case studies).
The workshop's aim was to 1) introduce economics researchers to Indigenous histories and cultures and to community engagement models; 2) help foster culturally appropriate models and policies for economic development in Indigenous communities; 3) develop curriculum materials to train economics students; 4) provide a platform for sharing recent research and discussion.
Among the organizers for this conference were Drs. Donna Feir and Rob Gillezeau.
