Student mental health

The Office of Student Life (OSL) helps to support the university’s Student Mental Health Strategy. The strategy is an intended framework for the development and implementation of action plans to support positive student mental health and well-being in order to enhance all students’ potential for success.

In support of the Student Mental Health strategy, the Office of Student Life coordinates the following programs and initiatives:

Community acupuncture

April 4  - 8, 2022

The Office of Student Life is offering a week of free community acupuncture on campus to support students as they prepare for the exam period from 11-3 p.m. each day.

Student Mental Health Blog

The Student Mental Health blog is run by a group of UVic student bloggers who are passionate about promoting wellness and self-care practices, increasing awareness of topics related to mental health, and decreasing stigma towards mental illness on campus.

If you are interested in volunteering as a student mental health blogger or if you’d like to know more about the initiative, please indicate your interest on the Office of Student Life student opportunities form. Intake and orientation occurs in September of each year.

Each month, the Office of Student Life releases a Mental Health Events calendar to inform members of the university community of upcoming mental health and well-being related events and activities offered on campus.

Student Mental Health Leadership program

The Student Mental Health leadership program is a volunteer program for students who are dedicated to promoting positive mental health and wellbeing, cultivating a supportive community, and decreasing stigma on campus.

The Student Mental Health Leaders are trained on a diverse range of skills and are given the opportunity to take leadership on implementing initiatives to positively impact our campus community. Throughout the year, the Student mental Health Leaders work together to organize a diverse range of student outreach initiatives and mental health related events.
