SHAPE Volunteer Application

Did you know that physical activity can be a helpful tool to manage anxiety and depression?

As a volunteer with the FitConnect program, you will be paired with a student experiencing symptoms of mild to moderate depression and/or anxiety who have been referred by a UVic healthcare provider (Counsellor, Nurse, Physician etc.). Working together, you will help encourage them to meet their activity and self-care goals. You will meet with them to do physical activity and help them stick to their plan.

The Harm Reduction Centre aims to help students to make informed and safer choices around sex and substance use. The HRC is staffed by SHAPE volunteers. Volunteers are trained to provide accurate information and to distribute safer substance use and safer sex supplies. Volunteers can also connect visitors to further campus and community resources.

Hours

Monday to Friday 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

The HRC is located in the basement of Student Union Building in Room B002.

The ambassador team supports student well-being by planning events and activities, developing workshops, providing guidance and education, and connecting students to campus and community services. As a health promotion volunteer you will have opportunities to collaborate with partners across campus and be creative in developing initiatives with the SHAPE team.

SHAPE volunteers have hosted a wide variety of events including offering yoga, massage, healthy relationship workshops, de-stress events and nutrition videos.
