Expertise Profile
Dr. Ken Thornicroft is a lawyer in a business school, a combination well-suited to his goal of bridging the gap between law and economics.

With a law degree and a doctorate in management, Dr. Thornicroft has the unique ability to combine the often separate worlds of the lawyer and the economist.

The professor of Law and Employment Relations with the University of Victoria's Gustavson School of Business often works like a detective. He analyzes court cases - sometimes in the hundreds - to find patterns that might remain hidden if they were looked at in isolation.

Dr. Thornicroft's students use experiential exercises to learn strategies for navigating workplace issues without the constant need of a legal team.

His current research focuses on employee/employer rights issues, the grievance arbitration process and the interpretation and enforcement of employment contracts.

Dr. Thornicroft's writing has been published in many outlets and he maintains a professional law practice focusing on arbitration and alternative dispute resolution.

The information age is changing the work world. His future studies will look at the influence of technology and the global marketplace on the changing nature of employment.
