Past Visiting Researchers

Heeseok Kim
- Visitorship duration:
August 2021 - August 2022
Research focus
I am conducting research on the actual taxation principle of tax laws and the law system in Canada. Actual taxation principle is the part that there are the conflicts between principle of no taxation without law and principle of taxation equality within the tax law system and it has the most arguments depending on the law system or the interpretation in tax law. Korea is still determining whether to apply it according to individual cases without suggesting a fundamental solution to addressing several problems that arise within the present Korean tax law system and its interpretation. The Canadian law system with its long history has established tax law regulations and interpretations on these issues. I am studying the Canadian actual taxation law system and comparing it with the Korean system and precedents to seek the direction of desirable actual taxation principles within the Korean tax law system.

Seonghee An

I am interested in exploring the use and implementation of a plan to activate warrant interrogation of criminal suspects through video media. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the introduction of non-face-to-face trial judges using video systems at home and abroad has emerged as an urgent issue. I will investigate relevant overseas cases and current conditions to find a realistic way to activate video trials, including the warrant interrogation procedure for criminal suspects.
