Student events

Each year CAPI organizes a variety of events for students. From CAPI's Student Symposium to film festivals and noodle nights, we are always looking for new ways to engage students in our Centre and bring the Asia-Pacific region and CAPI's program to students on campus.

IdeaFest: Stories from the Field Discover how UVic is connected to the world through student-led research with migrant and refugee rights organizations in India, Bangladesh, Singapore, South Africa and Malaysia. Students will share diverse capstone projects including: a phone app to learn Bangla, a cookbook-storybook from India, a digital resource library, a curriculum development project for refugee youth and a digital collage showcasing the lives of rickshaw wallahs. IdeaFest: Women Crossing Borders – Gender and the Asia-Pacific This event will feature a dynamic panel of researchers discussing a range of issues and will host a live koto concert by Satomi Edwards. CAPI’s Jarislowsky Japan Chair Professor Mary Yoko Brannen will be displaying her family’s collection of authentic Japanese Girls’ Day dolls, a 100-year old tradition in Japan. International Development Week: Stories from the Field – Intenship Experiences in Bangladesh and the Philippines As part of International Development week, the Centre for Asia-Pacific Initiatives will be hosting a student-led event that will provide an opportunity to engage with returnee interns and to learn about the incredible experiences they had during their recent international placements. This event will also give students and faculty the chance to learn about our upcoming internship program and gain insight into these unique learning opportunities.   David Strong C118 3 February 2015
