Soup ‘n Soul Cafe

Following Sunday Student Mass | 5:00pm | Holy Cross Parish – 4049 Gordon Head Rd

After celebrating the Eucharist together, students gather to feed their physical bodies and to spend time in fellowship together. Free homemade soup and buns or sandwiches and tea and coffee are served at the café. After the meal, the Chaplain or a guest speaker gives a short spiritual talk followed by discussion or questions. Everything is over by 7 p.m. so that students have the evening free for their studies and to prepare for the week ahead. This is a very popular place to be on Sundays.

When attending a Catholic Mass, a good maxim is "when in Rome, be like the Romans". If not Catholic, you are most welcome to attend a celebration of the Holy Eucharist and participate as much as you're able and comfortable.

It might be an idea to sit at the back and observe others as they sit, stand, kneel, etc. While welcome to participate in the prayers and songs, the one thing that is reserved for practicing Catholics is the reception of Holy Communion. The communion in the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ assumes full knowledge and full communion with the Catholic Church. A local custom for both Catholics and non-Catholics who are not receiving the Body and Blood of Christ, is to join the line of people going forward and crossing their arms over their chest, which indicates a request for a prayer of blessing.

After, or before the Mass, you can always quietly ask a member of the congregation or the priest for any explanations you might need.

God bless
