Interactive Book Arts

Reserve Reading Room Lounge

We have child-friendly, interactive book art activities so you can learn all about the methods of basic bookmaking.  Make your very own mini-book with Librarian Michael Lines.  Learn about printing with Archivist Heather Dean and make a hand-printed bookmark.  We will also help you make wearable book art buttons.  Check out some of our amazing book art from our collection and made by our amazing librarians and library assistants.  At UVic Libraries we think books are beautiful. Join us to learn why!

Tech Petting Zoo and 3-D printing demos

Front Foyer

Our Digital Scholarship Commons and Music & Media units have put together a technology petting zoo to provide a hands-on experience with some of the cool technologies and tools that are available in the library.  Some of the technologies at the petting zoo includes, virtual reality goggles, 3D Printers, an electronic magic 8-ball, and a green screen roller coast demonstration. Your UVic library of the future is about books and so much more!

All-Ages Storytime

Classroom 129

Our wonderful friends from the Greater Victoria Public Library will provide all-ages storytime at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 12:30 pm, and 1:30 pm.  Come early to be sure you get a good spot on the carpet to hear some of your favourite read-aloud stories that kids and parents are sure to enjoy.

Tour the Retro Computing Lab

Room 080—Lower Level

Join our Head of Systems, Librarian John Durno, for a tour of our Obsolete Computing and Media Lab (OCaM).  The lab showcases a collection of microcomputers from the 1960s to the present as well as software required for the recovery of data from older computing media.  The OCaM Lab is a working collection, not a museum, so come and learn all about the computers your grandparents may have used.
