Latin American muralism and identity

Latin America is renowned for powerful murals of nation-building struggles. However, a new Latin American Studies mural at UVic focusses on Latin American cultural identity, depicting handwork of women whose textiles provide symbolic understanding of the intersection between community, nature and the sacred. A panel of artists and scholars will present on muralism, the creation of the Clearihue Building mural, and an upcoming textiles exhibit, “The Mayan Dress Code.”

Presenters: Beatriz de Alba-Koch (Latin American Studies program), Kay Gallivan (Muralist) and Fabiola Sánchez (Curator)

Organised by: Latin American Studies
